ONE OF TUSCANY’S OLDEST FOOD TRADITIONS

Go Beyond the Table and Discover Where Truffles Begin

Truffles are one of Tuscany’s most prized ingredients, but finding them begins far away from restaurants and markets — beneath the soil of the countryside.

You’ll join Fabrizio and an experienced local truffle hunter as you follow the hunter’s specially trained dog through the woods of Val d’Orcia.

Along the way, you’ll learn how the hunter reads the landscape, how the dog identifies the scent beneath the ground and why different truffles appear during different seasons.

The experience is relaxed, informal and completely private. There is no staged demonstration or large tour group — just time in the countryside with people who know this tradition firsthand.

What Your Private Truffle Hunting Experience Looks Like

The complete experience lasts approximately four hours and combines the hunt with a traditional Tuscan lunch afterward.

1. Meet the Truffle Hunter & Dog

Fabrizio introduces you to the local truffle hunter and the specially trained dog that will lead the search.

2. Head Into the Val d’Orcia Countryside

Walk through the woods while learning about truffle habitats, the different varieties found in Tuscany and the traditional methods used to locate them.

3. Follow the Hunt

Watch the dog work the landscape, picking up scents beneath the ground while the hunter explains what he’s seeing and why particular areas are promising.

4. Sit Down for a Tuscan Lunch

After the hunt, we’ll head to a typical Tuscan home or farmhouse for a relaxed lunch featuring local dishes and the flavors of truffle.

A local wine can accompany the meal, but this experience does not include a separate wine tasting.

THE EXPERIENCE IS THE HUNT

It’s Not About How Many Truffles You Find

Truffle hunting is a real countryside tradition, which means nature decides what happens on any particular day.

The excitement comes from following the dog, watching the hunter interpret its behavior and understanding how something so valuable can remain completely hidden beneath the soil.

The amount and type of truffle found can vary according to the season, weather and conditions in the woods. That’s part of what makes the experience authentic.

Whether the dog finds one truffle or several, you’ll leave with a much better understanding of the work, patience and knowledge behind one of Tuscany’s most celebrated foods.

Finish Your Truffle Hunt with a Traditional Tuscan Lunch

After the hunt, the experience continues around the table.

You’ll visit a typical Tuscan home or farmhouse where you’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch built around traditional local flavors and truffle.

The exact dishes can vary according to the season and the kitchen, but the experience is meant to feel like eating in Tuscany rather than simply stopping at a restaurant.

A carefully selected local wine can accompany the meal.

There is no dinner option with this experience. The included meal is lunch following the truffle hunt.
